Reception - St. Catherine- Mrs Pritchard

Welcome to St Catherine's Class Page

Class Teacher: Mrs Pritchard
Teaching Assistant: Miss Blundell

What we will be learning:

We are going on a journey of discovery this week.  We will look at the different parts of the Creation Story.  We start the week by looking at light and dark.  We will experience what is like to go from darkness to light.  Later on in the week we are exploring different stations which relate to the different days of creation for example, looking at the soil, looking at things that grow and searching for animals, looking at animals that fly, looking at the sky and fishing for fish in pretend water.

This week we will be looking at the sounds i, n, m  and d.  We will be recognising them in words and then practice forming the letters correctly.  We will end the week by revising the sounds and then blending some of the sounds to make simple words such as pan, map, pad etc.

Home Learning:  Go on a sound hunt - what objects can they find that start with the sounds i, m, n and d?  Can they practice writing the sounds or simple words and can they find some words in a book with those sounds?

This week we are continuing to look at matching numbers and quantities.  We will be  playing dominoes by counting and matching the spots. We will be feeling different shaped cubes in a bag and estimating how many cubes their are and then be counting them to check.  Finally we will be sorting shapes.

Home Learning: Can you play a game of dominoes together at home? (if you haven't got a set already, use the sheet below)

Reading books are being sent home this week.  Please try to hear your child read every day.  If they have no words in their books, please ask your child to tell you the story by using the pictures.  Please sign to say they have read each day in their reading record and make any relevant comments.  Reading books are to be returned on Fridays so they can be isolated over the weekend before new ones being sent out on a Monday.

  Key Information
Reading Books In Reception school reading books are changed weekly. Your child will be allocated a book change day, which you will be notified of in the Autumn Term. If there is no comment in your child's Reading Record we will assume you have not had a chance to read with your child. Please record the text title(s) in your child's reading record.
P.E. Day Our P.E. day is Friday morning. P.E. kits should be kept in school at all times. We will send them home over the school holidays. Long hair needs to be tied back and earrings are not allowed to be worn in school at any time. It would be helpful if girls could have a pair of white ankle socks in their PE bag for the days they come to school wearing tights.

Forest School

Our Forest School day is Thursday morning.  Please make sure your child has their forest school kit and wellies in school.
