December Update 2020

In RE we have been learning about  Mary, Our Mother. The children have been practicing the Hail Mary and thinking about why she is so important. In the lead up to Christmas, we have also been learning about advent and what we can do to prepare for Jesus' birthday and his second coming.

In English, we have been looking at the features of letters and what we must include when writing one. Following this, the children have each thought about a Christmas wish for others, what they have worked hard at this year and what they would like for Christmas. The children have put this into writing, creating their own letters to Father Christmas. We have also really enjoyed acting out The Nativity and writing a recount of The Christmas Story.

We have been exploring number and place value. Year 1 have found lots of interesting ways to represent different numbers using classroom objects, resources and written methods e.g bead strings, unifix cubes and tally marks. We have also been using the base ten and part-whole models to partition teen numbers and write addition number sentences.

Reading Books

Please read at home with your child and sign the reading record when you have read. Regrettably, we are unable to change school reading books until the previous books have been returned and the reading record is signed.

Reading books will be allocated on a Monday to read throughout the week. These need to be handed back in on a Friday, ready for new books to be given the following Monday. Bugclub is to be used for reading over the weekends.

Homework will be sent out via Google Classroom every Thursday and is due in the following Thursday.

P.E. and Forest School Days

Our P.E. day is Thursday. P.E. kits should be kept in school at all times. We will send them home over the school holidays. All long hair needs to be tied back.

Our Forest School day is Friday. Children will have a session once a fortnight. Please make sure that they have the appropriate named kit in school.

Morning Routine

When children arrive in the morning they are expected to say goodbye to their parents on the playground. The children then come into class and change out of their coats and outdoor shoes and put away their book bags, water bottles and lunch boxes. Once their belongings are away the children go to their places where they complete early morning work. At 8:45 the classroom door is closed and registration is taken, finishing with morning prayer. Any child arriving after 8:45 must enter school through the Main Reception Area where a late slip must be completed.
